HISTORY OF CHRISTMAS IN FOUR FESTIVE DRINKS
The event may be virtual but the box of drinks is very real and is delivered to your door. We meet online to enjoy an interactive and fun evening covering the history of the four drinks that are uniquely British and drunk at Christmas.
We will enjoy a few tipples as we talk about some of the fun, fascinating and sometimes weird traditions of a British Christmas.
Why is it that we chosen the 25th December to celebrate and why do we eat and drink so much at this time? If we think that we eat a lot now, just imagine gorging for twelve days of Yuletide that was traditional up until Georgian times. And there are the Victorian additions to the celebrations as well as many rituals and traditions that may have been lost if it wasn’t for Charles Dickens and Prince Albert who helped bring them back. This is an event of nostalgia and tales of Christmas’s past which is a good way to get us into the festive mood.
