SECRET HISTORY OF STREET FOOD
What exactly is street food? We will dismiss the myth that street food was created at festivals by tracing it right back to Roman times. We will have a look at how Londoners ate over the years and why we relied on the city’s various street sellers and costermongers to provide us with such delights as hot sheep’s feet and codlings. We will taste delicious examples of street food including pies and oysters and many other delights on sale at our chosen market.
The tour will take in one of London’s street food markets e.g. Borough Market. Borough Market is the oldest market in London and is a wonderful place to people watch, taste food and purchase food to take home. Nestled under the railway arches and spilling over into the old churchyard, this market has seen a lot of changes in its 1000 year history. Come and taste some of the differences.
Take this tour on a Saturday and you will also be able to see one of London's newest and trendiest street markets, hidden away on Maltby Street.
