According to Vivienne Westwood, fashion was created by the French and British; an unusual collaboration! We will look at how London’s fashion has changed over the years. The early 19th century saw men wearing clothes purely to look good with no exact function and fashion was born. The tour covers the male dominated areas such as Savile Row and Jermyn Street as well as we discover just when the strict dress codes, called Sumptuary Laws ceased to impact on the lives of the poor and middling classes ensuring they were kept in their place. We also look at womenswear and also look to the future of fashion as we wander the new secret shopping streets only known to the cognoscenti. We see how some heritage brands have become the great designer labels of today and discover the new girls and boys on the block.
