the villages of london - notting hill

You have seen the movie, heard about the famed Carnival and are just itching to spend money in its famous Portobello market. Don’t be too fooled by its charm, Notting Hill has a lot of hidden history. It's quite hard to believe that what is currently London's most fashionable area was described as "a massive slum, full of multi-occupied houses, crawling with rats and rubbish" only 40 years ago - definitely a no-go area. Such a place would not have warranted a second glance by London's hip and famous, let alone have inspired a film starring a bumbling Englishman and American movie goddess.

"We live in London and learned a huge amount about the history of an area we have hardly visited. The Spa and two food markets we visited were really great with lots of interesting food shops and Emma gave us the history behind the products."
